Heverly Has Moved!
SoOo if you have not already heard...I have moved! I am not longer teaching art at Fishcreek & Riverview Elementary Schools, however, I am now at Lakeview Intermediate School!
For my new students and prior students, I use this blog to explain what we are working on in class, the expectations of projects, upcoming projects and photographs of student work! Please check in throughout the year!! I am loving it here at Lakeview!

5th Grade
Project 1 - Who Are You? Self-Portrait (mixed media)
To begin the year off getting to know each other, I had each student create something that they felt represented them as an individual. Artists were allowed to create a collage, painting, drawing, or sculpture after drawing out their design. Following this project each child was required to write an artist statement answering the following questions: What inspired me to create my art? What materials did I use? What challenges did I face? What does my art mean to me?
Project 2 - African Face Jugs (clay/glaze)
Project 3 - Aztec Sun (oil pastels/aluminum tooling)
After tying in the 5th grade curriculum of the Aztecs, discussing the Aztec Calendar Stone and Mexican Mirrors, we began to create our own using types of line and patterns. These were colored using oil pastels. To complete the sun/face, we discussed local Akron Artist Don Drumm and created unique sun faces on aluminum tooling that were glued into the center.
Project 4 - Fire Safety Posters (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
Working with along with Firefighter Sandy, students created fire safety posters. Click the link below to read more information about this awesome opportunity!
