Our heARTs is in Art <3
Kindergarten
These kiddos have been working hard! We have been working on drawing animals (photos to come) and cave art! We watched a short video clip about the Lascaux Caves. We also had a discussion about what the cavemen might have created these drawings with in addition to why they may have created these images! Lastly, we viewed images of the animals and cavemen that were drawn in the caves. Now it was time for them to create their own cave art! Each table had colored chalk (red, gray, black, white and browns) and they were to draw an animal in the center. They were allowed to add cavemen and other details as well! We finished them off with a white handprint as a signature! They enjoyed using the chalk and blending the colors! We are finishing up the handprints and finishing our animal drawings and we will compare the images we draw today to the animal images from the caves!
First Grade
First grade students recently finished their chalk lions and have been working on a Cezanne inspired still life. First we discussed Cezanne and viewed images of his work. Students created these step by step as a class. I had previously drawn each step and I showed it to them and explained it as we went. First we began with 3 circles, then added stems, next the plate and finally they could customize their placemat or table. To complete these, we painted them using watercolors. Some classes are finishing these!
Second Grade
In second grade, artists have been working underwater images and image transfer. When we first began this project we discussed items that we might find underwater by brainstorming and looking at some projected images. Next, students drew their own underwater image on a white sheet of paper using pencil. We are currently in the middle of our image transfer process onto aluminum tooling (using our original image, a pencil and a magazine) and some classes are currently working on coloring these with colored sharpie markers! Finished images to come!
Third Grade
Third grade students are currently finishing up their tree-houses and beginning their animal textures. Completed images to follow!!
Fourth Grade
Fourth grade students have been working on two different projects. At Riverview we began working on figure drawing while incorporating the grayscale and introducing thumbnail sketches. Fishcreek students began working on a lego self-portrait that truly represents them! In the middle of all of these projects, students at both schools have been glazing their mugs and preparing them for their final firing in the kiln!
